Calls to sustain school broadcast in Sierra Leone

Some sections of the public have called on government and educations authorities to uphold the school broadcast programme that is being implemented due to the Ebola outbreak in the country.

The disease, which is highly contagious and had killed more than 900 people May, had forced government schools, colleges and private learning institutions to close down indefinitely.

CDC calls for more Ebola labs in Sierra Leone

Representative of the American medical institution,the Center for Disease Control in Sierra Leone, has observed that government needs more laboratories to tackle the spread of the Ebola virus.

Dr. Carrie Nielsen yesterday told a press conference at the Cathedral Hall in Freetown that they had recorded about 70 to 80% of Ebola cases and that “these far outweigh the available laboratories in the country.”

New scanner needed at Water Quay

Chairman Association of Clearing and Forwarding Agency (ACFA) hassaid that government needs to install a new scanning machine at the Queen Elizabeth Quay II if operations must continue smoothly.

Abdul Akim Bangura said the scanning machine they had had been in operation for about 10 years and that there was urgent need for another. He said the scanner had developed a lot of problems and “it breaks down on a regular basis which causes delaysfor our clients clearing their containers.”

Sierra Leone: Bollore blames snag on Arican Link

Deputy managing director of Bollore African Logistics, the management handling the affairs of the Freetown Terminal, has blamed delays in clearing of containers from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay on African Link Company.

Bertrand Kerguelen said the clearing agency was responsible for the management of that department.

Appeal against ostracising Ebola survivors

Spokesperson for the civil society group, Mental Health Coalition, has appealed to communities to incorporate and not ostracise people who have survived the Ebola virus disease in Sierra Leone.

George Bindi told a press conference at the Sierra Leone nongovernmental organisations headquarters in Freetown that Ebola survivors were being rejected by their communities.

Ebola survivors warned against sex

Presidential Adviser on health says people who are declared to have survived the Ebola virus should abstain from having sex for three months after the declaration.

Yabom Thaslim Sesay Koroma, who was speaking at the Ebola treatment centre at Hastings where 33 more survivors had been discharged, warned that the disease could remain in human bodies for that long even after surviving the attack.

Kailahun to get recovery centre

Chairman Kailahun district council has told Politico that they are near completion of an Ebola recovery centre in theeastern district town to stop a possible recycling of the infection in that part of the country.

Barrister Alex Bonafa said when commissioned the center, located at the former military base, would accommodate all discharged Ebola survivors for ninety days before they would be released to their communities.
