Traders concerned over Sewa Grounds rent

As they await the opening of the Sewa Grounds Market in Freetown, traders Politico spoke to at the famous Abacha Street have expressed fears about the would-be rent to be charged for shops at the centre .

The Chairlady Fatmata Barrie was speaking in relation to the advertisement for applications for shops at the facility which in quoting a statement by the Communication person for the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohamed Bangali will be out at the end of the month.

Another Native Doctor in police custody

A 47-year-old witch doctor named Alusine Kamara has been taken into Police custody at the Newton (4 Mile) Police Post, Waterloo Police Division after being caught burying charms in graves at the Mabron Village cemetery in the dawn hours of Sunday 5th  November, 2023.

The Police said the community people described the native doctor to be notorious of such act on the outskirts of Waterloo.

3 trafficked children back in Sierra Leone

Three Sierra Leonean children who were trafficked to Mali have been repatriated, Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karminty confirmed in Freetown on Tuesday 7th November 2023 during the Government’s weekly press conference hosted by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education.

“They have been brought home from Mali today, aged between three and fifteen,” she added.

Stakeholders meet to evaluate Sierra Leone's extractives draft bill

Officials of the Sierra Leone Extractive Industries Transparency Initiatives (SLEITI) together with members of the Multi-Stakeholders Group (MSG) have deliberated in Freetown on a draft Natural Resources Transparency Bill that is geared towards transforming the extractives sector and making it more accountable to the people of this country.

The aim of the bill is to prepare a regime that will enhance disclosures from natural resources companies and revenue management institutions for the preparation of Reports by SLEITI.

Bike rider remanded for murder

A man identified as a bike rider and famer in Bo district has appeared before a magistrate court in Freetown for allegedly killing one Osman Jalloh at Bass Street, Brookfields in Freetown.

26-year-old Ibrahim Kamara appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Monday 6th November 2023, where the two counts of conspiracy and murder were read out to him.

The accused who did not have a lawyer was not asked to make a plea.

Six months for wounding with intent

Justice Monfred Sesay has sentenced a convict, Abu Bakarr Kamara to Six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to wounding Edward Musa.

 37-year-old Kamara who had earlier pleaded not guilty to the offence admitted to the crime after his Legal Aid Board Lawyer, Randy Salieu Bangura informed the court that his client wished to change his plea.
