World Bank`s new country representative unveiled

Mr. Parminder S. Brar has been unveiled as new Country Manager for the World Bank in Sierra Leone.

He resumes work effective October 1, 2015, a statement from the bank`s office in Freetown notes.

Parminder, an Indian, replaces Francis Ato Brown, Ghanaian, who served in the office for the last three years.

A dispatch from the office of the Communications Consultant of the World Bank states the new manager`s top priorities as safeguarding “the excellent relationship” between the Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone and conduct day-to-day dialogue with the authorities, donors and civil society. He will also oversee the implementation of the Country Partnership Strategy and the performance of the country portfolio, and he will effectively manage the country office and staff.

Parminder is said to have visited Sierra Leone in mid-September 2015 on a week-long pre-assignment visit, during which he paid a courtesy call on President Ernest Bai Koroma, met with key government functionaries, development partners, the UN family and had lunch with the country office staff.

In his meeting with President Koroma, Mr. Parminder hailed the government and people of Sierra Leone for standing strong against the Ebola Virus Disease.

According to a brief biography released by the Bank, Parminder joined the World Bank in 2003 as a Lead Financial Management Specialist in the Operations Policy and Country Services Vice Presidency Unit. He has since held various positions, his most recent assignment being Lead Financial Management Specialist in the Governance Global Practice, based in Ethiopia.

He is married with three adult children. As a Professor, he has authored over 100 publications in various books, journals and reports.
