Chief Executive Officer of the nongovernmental organisation Hands Empowering the Less Privileged (HELP/SL) has donated one 5.5kva generator to the management of Radio Wanjei in Pujehun.
Siaffa Jobson Momoh Jr. told Politico that the generator, worth Le 5 million should be used to provide power supply to the radio station. He said it was their responsibility to help a community-owned property as the local broadcaster.
He admonished the radio management to take proper care of the machine and ensure its sustainability, especially at a time when they should keep the public constantly engaged on the dangers of the Ebola Virus Disease.
Momoh also encouraged other development partners in and out of country, including political representatives from the district, to give their fullest support to the radio. He said he would continue to give support in diverse ways to the radio and other groups in the district.
The manager of the local radio station, Anthony Deen, commended the Momoh for his “kind donation” and encouraged him to continue. He said he was not surprised at his gesture because he had been “greatly promoting development in the entire district”, and called on other development agencies to give their own support to the management.
Deen said power supply had been their major challenge and that that was the first time, since his appointment as manager, that an indigene had supported the radio.
He said the donation was timely and assured the CEO of its sustainability while they continued to produce quality programmes for the whole southern district.
Radio Wanjei was established in 2005 by the Community Radio Network (CORNET)
