The German humanitarian organization, Welt Hunger Hilfe (WFF), has donated 40 thermometers to the District Emergency Operations Center in Kenema. WHF said the donation is part of their support to fight COVID-19 in the district.

Santigie Kamanda Kanu, who is one of the project officers at WHF in the district, said the District Health Management Team (DHMT) had approached them and explained that they were in need of thermometers to do temperature checks, which is important to determine fever, a major symptom of the viral disease.

Kanu said they had to dip into funds meant for the agriculture project that they are implementing in the district to buy the donated consignment.

He said: “This is meant to help fight Coronavirus in the country since it has affected all sectors of activities of the organization."

Kanu added that the total cost of the consignment is Le26 million and advised that they be deployed at the treatment center in Kenema.

“I want to encourage the medical people at the treatment center to take good care of the equipment so that it can serve its intended purpose,” he said.

The District Medical Officer, Dr Donald Grant, said: “It will help the medical staff on daily monitoring of those at the treatment center, quarantine homes and even health staff working at various sectors."

Dr Grant said there were up to 17 quarantine homes in the district, noting that the thermometers came in on time as it would help them keep tabs on all those in quarantine.

Kenema had recorded 34 cases as of Saturday, 30th May.
