The Operations Team at the Waterloo Police Division has discovered two stolen vehicles hidden in a garage that police sources say is notorious for buying such vehicles, dismantling them, and later selling the parts, some as scrap metal.

The two vehicles discovered were a Hyundai car that is property of the Local Unit Commander of Freetown‘s Central Police station Ibrahim Theophilious Zachariah Tarawally,  and a Toyota 4 Runner whose owner is yet to be identified, two months after it was seized by the Police.

The media officer and spokesperson of the Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alieu Jalloh gave the story to Politico on the 10th of July 2023.

According to ASP Jalloh, the police upon receiving a tipoff about the stolen Hyundai immediately stormed the garage situated at Bassa Town in Lumpa and retrieved the LUC’s car. He said Officer Tarawally has already produced documents to the effect to prove that he is the rightful owner of the car.

He told Politico that they have arrested four people including the garage owner and a man he had already sold the vehicle to. The two others detained are a lady and another young man who are currently at the Police station helping with the investigations.

ASP Jalloh also confirmed the discovery of the Toyota 4 runner with registration number AFZ 143 at Deep-Eye Water-a community on the highway close to Waterloo, its owner yet to be identified.   He recalled how some four years ago before his transfer to Waterloo, he heard about a syndicate involving a man named Jalloh who was arrested for buying stolen vehicles and selling them as scrap. He said such a similar trend has started again. Waterloo is considered by the Police as a crime–infested area.
