Member of Parliament for Constituency 95 has revealed that the Councillor of Ward 342 in Waterloo has been quarantined as a result of the deaths of about 13 people in his vicinity, some of whom, it has been confirmed, died of Ebola.
In an interview with Politico, Claude Kamanda, MP, said he instructed the Ebola emergency response unit to quarantine houses at Cole Street at Lumpa when he started receiving reports of cases of death from the area.
Kamanda went on that after tests had been carried out on the deceased, the district medical team was able to confirm through the community health officer that some of the 13 who had been living in the councillor’s compound, had actually died of Ebola.
The MP explained that the confirmation came days after over 10 of the deceased had died of a sickness none of the locals were sure of, adding that they only learnt about the causes of deaths after their blood samples were tested.
“It was very difficult and challenging to detect that the people were dying of the virus as there were no medical teams around to run tests on them", he said, adding that many "strange deaths" had occurred at Waterloo lately, causes of which, he said, were unknown.
