Waterloo and Tombo get PPEs

By Crispina Cummings

Member of Parliament for Constituency 94 has donated Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs, to health centres in Waterloo and Tombo to help in the fight against Ebola.

Kemohkoh Conteh made the donations at his “Kick Ebola out of Constituency 94 and Sierra Leone” campaign last week. The package included 5 cartons of PPEs, 130 plastic buckets, six megaphones and three infrared thermometers for each of the health facilities.

He said that a PPE was essential because “it is one of the first things that should be in the health centres”, adding that the fight against Ebola had been difficult because health workers lacked protection against the contagious virus.

“With the PPE, medical staff will not be afraid of treating patients”, he stated and urged the public to stop denying the reality of Ebola. “Ebola is real and dangerous,” he stressed. He noted that denials had made the Ebola fight very difficult.

The MP said the donation was done out of the money given to MPs by the government for oversight leadership to fight Ebola. He called on traditional and community leaders to join hands in the fight.

Community Health Officer, Jimmy Jajua said that “the donation is very timely as the protective gear will protect our health workers from contracting the virus.” He said the Waterloo community had already reported 12 confirmed cases and five deaths and that some six patients were presently being treated while four areas had been quarantined.
