Vice President calls for unity

When he embarked on his Ebola social mobilisation tour and visited his own chiefdom of Sandor, Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana called on his people in the Kono District “to beunited and forget about pettiness”.

He told his people at the Kayima town court barriethat “a house divided against itself will not stand” and that “it is only with unity and family solidarity among political heads, traditional leaders and the ordinary man that we can bring tangible development to the district.”

He urged them to forget about the past and focus on the wellbeing of their people.

Before the meeting the vice president joined Paramount Chief Hammed Tyjan Fasuluku Sonsiama III of Sandor chiefdom from his residence to process peacefully through to the centre of Kayima town and to the barriewhere the social mobilization gathering was held.

Deputy town chief of Jumumdedu, Tamba Ngaima, described the procession “as historic and a symbol of peace and unity in their chiefdom.”

Councillor John Trye thanked the VP and PC for demonstrating leadership in front of their subjects. He also said that: “the district will only realise development when the political heads and the traditional leaders are united.”

VP Sumana thanked people of Sandor chiefdom and the authorities for recording only four Ebola positive cases since the outbreak of the virus in the country. He attributed their success to the Ebola bye-laws and the advice of medics. He insisted that the people should continue to obeythose laws and pieces of advice until a total eradication of the disease out of the country.

He thanked President Ernest Bai Koroma and donor partners for the measures they took to fight the virus and the provision of finances, logistics and human recourses.

He said with unity, “the country will defeat the Ebola virus just like the way it did with the eleven years rebel war that ravaged the country.”

He donated Le10 million to the people of the chiefdom, some protective gears and infrared hand-held thermometers in the fight against the virus in the district.

After the ceremony, PC Fasuluku told Politico, that he was happy “with the peaceful conduct of the visit of my brother, VP Sam Sumana”.
