By Anthony Newman Levey in Bo

The United Methodist Church (UMC) last Saturday 5th March 2022 went to the polls to elect a new Bishop during a four-day conference ended which commenced on Thursday 3rd March 2022 at Tebit Memorial Church, Messima Section in Bo.

The position has been vacant since the death last year by the road accident of Bishop John K. Yambasu.

Four men, Reverend Professor Edwin Momoh, Reverend Francis Ben Charley, Reverend Emmanuel Pewa, and Reverend Boye Caulker are vying for the Bishop position.

Rev. Francis Ben Charley declined his nomination shortly after he was nominated by Paul Kebbie and seconded by Welie Lavalie.

The Interim Bishop Warner H. Brown who headed the election announced the qualifications to contest for Bishop, saying that one must be an elder, have served some time in the Church, not someone just ordained.

During the conference on Friday, the wife of the late Bishop Yambasu, Milicent Yambasu received a peace award given to her late husband.

In her short statement, Milicent Yambasu thanked the UMC mission for honoring her late husband who took the mission to another level. She urged members of the mission to maintain peace at all times.

Five hundred and seventeen (517) delegates voted in the election. The conference was attended by members of the UMC Church in Liberia and other parts of the world. Results of the election were yet to be announced up to press time.
