The criminal investigation department in Bo is investigating two people for an alleged trafficking of an 11-year old boy.
The two suspects, Foday Mansaray and Moinina Bundu of Lungi Village in Jiama Chiefdom, Bo District, according to police, conspired to sell Borbor Mansaray.
According to reports, Foday Mansaray, who has been serving as a guardian for Bornbor Mansarsay since the death of the boy’s father in 2010, contracted his friend, Moinina Bundu to look for a buyer. Mr Bundu alleged informed one John Gbapi of Koribondo Town to help search for a prospective buyer.
"According to investigations, sometime in August, 2020, the suspects, Foday Mansaray met John Gbapi of Koribondo Town and told him that he (Foday Mansaray) has a son for sale and that Gbapi should help to get interested person for the said business," Southern Region Police Media and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu, explained.
He noted that John Gbapi informed the Paramount Chief, Foday Bassie, who then reported the matter to the police.
Inspector Senu noted that with the help of John Gbapi, police started monitoring the suspects - Foday and Moinina. He said they would contact the two on the pretext of wanting to buy the boy. He said the two suspects eventually agreed to bring Borbor Mansaray to Koribondo for them to do the transaction.
Mohamed Bobson Senu told Politico that on the 12th August, 2020, between 4pm and 5pm, Foday Mansaray brought the boy to Koribondo as agreed and that after negotiations, they agreed to sell the boy for the sum of Le 70million, down from Le100million.
It was at this point that the police apprehended the two suspects who are currently in police custody, whiles the boy has been handed over to a guardian to stay with pending investigation into the matter.
There has been an alarming rate of reports of human trafficking in Sierra Leone lately.
