The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Kabineh Kallon has assured a cross-section of Sierra Leone Airport Authority (SLAA) staff that no one will be left out or disadvantaged when paying their end-of-service benefits.
He made this statement during a meeting with representatives of SLAA, Summa Group of Companies, Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), SLAA Board, and State Counsel at the ministry’s Conference Room, Freetown, and 20th March 2023.
Senior Permanent Secretary, Al-Hassan Kondeh emphasized the ministry’s commitment towards a successful transition of the management and staff to the new airport administration, recalling an engagement the ministry had with the general staff of SLAA in January 2023 regarding their end-of-service benefits.
Kondeh noted that the action of some staff to converge a cross-section of their members to a meeting in relation to their end-of-service benefits was unfortunate and uncalled for. He called on the general staff to remain peaceful and patient as the relevant authorities are working assiduously to ensure that everyone’s entitlement is given accordingly.
In his statement, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, thanked SLAA staff for making it a point of duty to attend the meeting, adding that it was an opportunity for all parties to have a frank talk as a family.
He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and successful transition of the management and staff of the Airport, noting that he has met with the Labor Minister to verify and ascertain the staff's rightful end-of-service benefits.
He stressed the ministry would continue to engage the Airport Staff on the processes involved and urged them to work as a team to solve the issue once and for all.
He called for cooperation and collaboration among all parties for an amicable solution to the issue.
SLAA Steward, Mohamed Jim Kamara, thanked the Minister and team for their intervention, adding that his swift intervention is a sign of good leadership. He appealed to the minister and the transition team to work with them and continue the flow of engagement as they only have one country called Sierra Leone.
