One Mohamed Sesay alias Kallon, 33, was said to have confessed to the Police that he murdered one Alie Sesay on the 11th August last year at Mountain Cut, according to Inspector Mohamed Kargbo of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown.

This evidence was revealed at the High Court in Freetown on Tuesday 5th October this year when Inspector Kargbo was testifying as the fourth prosecution witness in the murder matter involving Kallon as the accused.

The homicide officer said that the accused confessed to the killing of Sesay while acting on self-defence along Mountain Cut via Sanusi building. The second voluntary cautioned statement of the accused which was read by the officer in court, revealed the confession of Kallon using a knife and scissors to stab Sesay on the said day. Kargbo said that the accused told them that it was not his intention to kill Sesay but rather to wound him.

The 33 year who traded in old used clothing told the Police that he picked the said knife on the street and the scissors  he normally used in his trade to stab his victim. The man told the Police that he and the deceased had not been in speaking terms because Alie  had beaten his younger brother one Sallu mercilessly. He said both his family and that of the deceased had been at loggerheads since then.

Sesay denied malice culminating over a woman, and an incident that occurred at a Tangays festival at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown. The Police had questioned the accused on an incident at the festival in which the deceased failed to assist Kallon in a brawl. Kallon had denied the allegations made by the Police.

Another witness, the elder brother of the deceased, Abass Sesay was led in by State Prosecutor, Yusuf Isaac Sesay. Abass said that he was at his residence on Ranger Street when one Foday dashed there and informed him that Alie, his younger brother had been stabbed. He said it was on that information that he left his house and rushed to the alleged crime scene.

Abass said that upon arrival at the said scene of crime, he met a crowd of people. He told the judge that he saw a lot of blood on the ground. He added that he was told that his younger brother had been rushed to the Connaught Hospital. He explained how the Police came and took him to the hospital because there was curfew at the time. Abass said that he met his younger brother, one Mohamed Sesay who told him that their brother has been rushed in for treatment. He said about three minutes later, the doctors told him that Alie has died.

The elder brother said that he, together with some police officers went to the morgue where an autopsy was conducted by Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma, State Pathologist.

During cross examination by Legal Aid Lawyer, Harold Momoh, Inspector Kargbo maintained that the accused told them that he acted on self-defence. He said the accused told them that the deceased approached him with two other men to assault him. He said that the accused informed them that the deceased was with a knife.

Justice Komba Kamanda adjourned the matter for Tuesday 12th October 2021 with another prosecution witness set to testify in court.
