Executive of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) of Constituency 103 in Kissy, eastern Freetown has donated chlorine, food and cooking items to homes undergoing the Ebola 21-day quarantine period.
Presenting the items, the head of the party executive in the Constituency Luseni Kemokai said they were supporting the homes because they needed hope as they had undergone a period of depression. He said they had identified many quarantined homes in the constituency and they hoped to visit all of them after the 21-day period “to give them hope and courage as there is life after Ebola.”
Kemokai maintained that the fight against Ebola warranted the collective efforts of everybody and that as an executive they would ensure they provided support and sensitise the people within their constituency on Ebola preventive measures.
Deputy Chairlady of the constituency, Marina Kamara expressed condolences to families who had lost their members to Ebola. “Nobody will wish their enemy to be struck by Ebola because it is deadly and can wipe out an entire family or even a nation if not contained fast,” she said.
Kamara noted that what they were doing was not for political reasons, but rather they were only extending a helping hand to their people in need.
One of the quarantined people in the constituency, Ibrahim Mansaray thanked the executive for their support to his family. He said they had sleepless nights, surviving through only hope and courage from friends and other family members out of the quarantined zone.
Mansaray said they felt good realising that they were Ebola-free, but he said they felt bad for losing some family members to the virus.
