The Managing Director of Skye Bank in Sierra Leone, Ikubolaje Nicol, facing trial for allegedly killing a junior colleague, Miss Sinnah Kai Kargbo, will continue to be on remand, until the next adjourned date, Wednesday 7th December 2022, for a second hearing.
With anticipation that the matter would come up yesterday Thursday at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, Magistrate Mark Ngegba told the court that all matters that were adjourned to Wednesday November 30, but didn’t hold including this case, due to a nationwide judicial recess, will be deferred to the 7th December 2022.
Defense lawyer, Roland Wright, representing Nicol, told the magistrate that his client had already spent about 24 days in police custody before coming to court and that on Wednesday the defense had been in court for the trial since 9 a.m. but there was no sitting.
Earlier in the previous hearing on the 23rd November 2022, the accused did not take a plea after the charges were read and explained to him.
The accused faces charges ranging from Murder to Perverting the Course of Justice.
The prosecution alleged that the accused on diverse dates between the 15th and 16th October 2022 at Leicester Village in Freetown conspired together with other persons unknown to murder Sinnah.
It is also alleged that on the 17th October 2022 at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown, the accused fabricated evidence with intent to pervert the course of justice.
The prosecution was led by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Easmon N. B. Ngagui, and six state counsels.
Prosecutor Ngagui told the court that their witness was not present in court and requested for an adjournment.
