By Francis H. Murray

Twenty-eight year old Mariama Quiwa, accused of assaulting a mother and her child, has been admitted to a Le10 million bail after the alleged victim testified before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown.

In her testimony, the plaintiff, Umu Bah, told the court that she was home on the 20th of April 2020 when she had argument with her neighbor Fatmata Ballay over an illegal connection to her satellite dish and electricity meter.

Umu narrated that after asking Ballay what she was doing with her dish, the accused joined the argument and pushed her to the ground with her baby girl, Audreya Salmatta, adding that the accused also knocked down her phone from her hand and damaged the screen. Umu said she was in severe pain because she fell on the side of her stomach where she had undergone surgery during delivery of her baby, causing her fresh pains.

Umu Bah said she reported the matter to the Congo Cross Police station where a police medical form was issued to her.

Police prosecutors allege that Quiwa on Monday 20th April assaulted Umu Bah in a manner thereby occasioning actual bodily harm, insulted and provoked her with intent by using certain insulting words against her and assaulted her daughter, for which she faces three count charges.

Under cross-examination by lawyer Abdulai Kondowa, Umu Bah told the court that she didn’t say any insulting word in response to the accused, adding that she sustained some injuries while she tried to protect her baby from sustaining injuries after she was pushed to the ground.

The matter was adjourned to the 18th June 2020.
