By Ruth Yeabu Sesay

Yesterday 24th November 2022, the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL) officially commenced the voter verification process.

The verification is being done so that people can cross check and know if their information was correct.

The ECSL Exhibition Officer at the Saint John’s Church Centre, in Freetown, G. Kanu said the process has been fine so far and they had not encountered any problems as at that time. He said the essence of the verification is to clarify any doubt or issue that may have arisen after the normal voter registration. The turnout reportedly has been quite encouraging and the process fast.

With regards to the safety and the privacy of the information of people that has been exposed, some of the exhibition officers stated that no one has complained about privacy and that this was the appropriate method that has been approved by the ECSL.

A lady who went to verify her information, Josephine Leigh said the process was swift and the method much appreciated. ECSL officially launched the voter registration exercise on the 24th August 2022 in Freetown. Registration proper commenced on the 3rd September and was scheduled to end on the 3rd October but had a few days added to allow more people to register.

ECSL’s subsequent Provisional results released recently states that 3,268,855 people were captured in the exercise nationwide. The elections will take place on the 24th June next year.
