Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio has reiterated his government's commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) especially in the area of education, peace and justice.

President Bio was speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the UAE Sustainability Week Summit in Abu Dhabi, on Tuesday, January 14.

During the summit, Bio highlighted his government’s achievement with the Free Quality Education program in Sierra Leone. Government sources said the program has benefitted up to 2 million children in the country.

Bio’s commitment to education is part of a wider agenda that focuses on Human Capital Development. This agenda forms the bedrock of the Medium-Term National Development Plan which was launched in February last year.

The President also used the Abu Dhabi Summit to talk about his government’s commitment to establishing an infrastructure for peace through a Commission for Peace and National Cohesion and also mentioned the investment opportunities in the country, especially in the energy sector.

The Sierra Leonean leader also mentioned the government’s efforts at consolidating peace and increasing access to justice for ordinary people.

At the climax of his statement, he advised other African governments to prioritize the use of science, technology and innovation in governance.
