Sierra Leone President meets Indian envoy

  • President Bio receives Indian envoy Yadav at State House

Sierra Leone and India hope to strengthen bilateral ties following a meeting by President Julius Maada Bio and an Indian envoy.

The envoy, who is the High Commissioner of India to Sierra Leone, Birender Singh Yadav, met with Bio on Monday at State House. A statement issued by the Presidential press secretary said the two discussed possible means of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The statement quoted Mr Yadav saying he was thankful for the opportunity to meet with the President.

“I hope to further discuss ways of deepening and widening more areas of cooperation for the benefit of the two countries,” he said.

Bio, on his part, hailed the many years of the “good” relationship between the two countries and assured that he would further work to strengthen it.

Sierra Leone is home to a large Indian community, which constitutes a major player in the local business. They are mostly involved in the electronic industry. India has also become a favorite spot for medical tourism for Sierra Leoneans facing health conditions that can’t be treated at home.
