The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party has announced the postponement of their Convention and National Delegates’ Conference which were scheduled for 16th January and 21st February, this year.
A press release issued by the party last week says the decision was arrived at in view of “the extenuating circumstances which are posing challenges for the holding of conventions leading to the National Delegates’ Conference which include the Covid-19 pandemic and the State of Public Health Emergency”.
The party says the conventions and delegates’ conference will now be held on or before 15th July 2021, and certain activities will take place within this period including an emergency national delegates’ conference. That is expected to see the adoption of APC’s new draft constitution by which time the party hopes an injunction against their convention would have been lifted and the court case that led to it withdrawn based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed and witnessed between the party and its reform-agitating wing the NRM.
The time frame would also allow APC to popularise its new constitution should it be approved at the national delegates’ conference that will also enable the party hold conventions and delegates conference.
The National Advisory Committee of the party authorised the postponement and new time frame for the events.
