Sierra Leone: Kambia votes again in March

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has declared Saturday 6 March 2021, as the date for the local council bye-election in Ward 192, Kambia District.

A press release signed by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, dated 15 January 2021 states that the seat was declared vacant following the death of Councilor Alpha Sannie Kamara, who died on the 12 December 2020.

“Saturday 6th March, 2021 is hereby declared as the day for the conduct of a Local Bye Election in Ward 192 in Kambia District,” the statement reads in part.

Nominations for the said local council bye election will take place on the 8 and the 9 February at the NEC District Office with a nomination fee of Le 1, 000, 000.

The final date for political parties to submit their endorsed candidates is on the 30 January, 2021.

According to the press release, the bye-election will be conducted in accordance with the COVID19 prevention guidelines approved by the National COVID19 Response Centre (NACOVERC).

The statement further states that the eligibility criteria include citizenship of Sierra Leone of Sierra Leone and 21 years or older. The candidate should be on the electoral register, must be a resident of the ward and must have paid their tax and rates of the locality by law.

It also states that other detailed information in relation to nominations of candidates and conduct of the said local council bye election will be communicated in due course.
