A security guard at Beowulf Security Agency, Peter Lebbie is currently on the run for allegedly stealing seven million Leones from the EDSA Kenema office where he was deployed to guard.
The incident, say officials, occurred on the night of January 5 this year.
David Moigboi Lahai, Meters Supervisor at EDSA office in Kenema told Politico that the money was payment made by customers for the prepaid metres on the previous day.
“We took the money to the bank for payment but we were not able to pay and decided to do the transaction in the morning. I came to take the money to the bank it was not found and our office keys are always in the care of the security guards,’’ he said.
Isatta Kallon, Admin Officer at EDSA office in Kenema told Politico that she was at the office at 8:05 am but found no security guard at the gate to open and had to call the engineer.
“Our finance officer Mathew Charles entered his office and noticed that the office ceiling had been broken and raised alarmed about it. The engineer and I went to police to report the matter,’’ she added
“Mathew Charles told me that nothing else was missing in his office since all the cash had been kept in the safe.”
She went on to explain that according to the report, the security guard in question told his colleagues with whom he was on duty to go ahead and rest as he would do the job while they would take over from him the following morning.
“This is the first time such has happened in the EDSA office. We have worked with the Concern Security Agency never to experience such a thing at this office,’’ Kallon said.
The Supervisor of Beowulf Security Agency for Bo and Kenema Jusu Heimoh expressed surprise and dismay over the incident, saying that the alleged perpetrator is not known for such criminal record since he started working in the company.
“This is a disgrace for our entity and I have never known him for that since Peter Lebbie is senior to me in this agency. We have worked at Sierra Rutile successfully which gave us the zeal to continue expanding our services to other parts of the country” he said.
Heimoh said he had already reported the matter to the head office in Freetown and it was now with the senior management but that the guard was on the run.
