The Falaba District Security Co-ordinator, Office of National Security, Tommy Koromba has cautiously spoken about security concerns along the border district in the north of the country. According to Koromba, Falaba district has seven official crossing points along the border with the Republic of Guinea but only four - Gbentu, Fulamansa, Walia Koindukura and Mansofinya have the presence of police and immigration officers. This he said could compromise the security arrangements in that part of the country.
Sharing his experiences on the challenges faced by Police Personnel, the Police Local Unit Commander, Edward Yamba said the complete lack of functioning vehicle is slowing down their swift response to security issues in far and hard-to-reach communities, and the transfer of charged suspects from Mongo Bendugu to the Kabala Magistrate Court, about 80 kilometres away.
Politico visited the Police station and found a rickety ‘FADEMCO’ Motor bike which is the only source of transportation that is used by the Crime Office within the township.
Like his immediate predecessor, CSP Yamba says he is resolved to continue the establishment of police posts, in the headquarters of the district’s thirteen chiefdoms to ensure police presence in all the chiefdoms, and enhance swift response to emerging security issues. But he suggested that personnel strength must be increased to meet that challenges.
He said as of now, his officers are present in five chiefdom headquarters with the most recent deployment at Morifindugu, Serekoliya Town. Amidst these drawbacks, CSP Yamba explained his plans to rejuvenate the dormant Local Police Partnership Board to complement their effort in curbing crime, effecting arrests and facilitating the transfer of suspects to the next available Police Posts in the chiefdom headquarters.
Except for the trending Sexual Gender-based Violence in the district, CSP Yamba said assault cases are not frequently reported to them as a result of which he referred to the district as relatively peaceful.
