Second year Sierra Leone varsity student to launch event management company

Ishiatu Fofanah, a second year student at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, is all set to launch an event management company.

Ms Fofana, who will serve as Chief Executive Officer of the company, Madam Planner, informed news men on Friday that the launching ceremony is slated for the 29th November, at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel. The launching will be done under the Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of Dr. Mary Okumu, Country Representative UN Women.

Madam Planner has been set up as a professional youth-led event planning and management company that specializes in corporate events, banquettes and gala dinners, fundraisers, award ceremonies, launching and commissioning of public and private projects.

Fofanah said Madam Planner will be a detail oriented management company that seeks to see each event through from start to finish, while keeping the goals, vision, budget and client's needs in mind at all times.

According to Ms Fofanah, they also do Ushering Services, Event Decoration, Professional and General makeup Services.

Madam Planner was set up not just as a business, but one that seeks to contribute to the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone. Hence, according to Fofanah, 10% of their annual profit is intended to be spent on projects geared towards reducing prostitution in the country. She disclosed that the company will be providing scholarship, business management training and seed money to commercial sex workers.

Fofanah, a Second year Broadcast Journalism Student at the Limkokwing University, is a youth activist, entrepreneur and public relations specialist. She is also the Director of Communications at Youth Advocacy Panel, a youth led organization that advocates for the welfare and Development of Young People. She is also the Executive Secretary for the Fifty Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Awards Committee.

Fofanah has demonstrated passion for peace building, gender and youth empowerment issues. She has represented the youths of Sierra Leone and spoke on their behalf in a lot of international policy forums that promote the welfare and development of young people. Due to her relentless effort in promoting youth empowerment and peace building issues, she has bagged numerous awards from reputable organizations and government agencies in Sierra Leone.
