SANUSI COVID-19 indices update (25/01/21)

Sierra Leone recorded 2.08% and 2.70% increase in COVID-19 total cases and total deaths respectively in 48 hours, from Thursday (10:00 am) to Saturday (10:00 am).

In comparison, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total cases was lower compared to Benin (2.42%), Burkina Faso (3.18%), Ivory Coast (2.81%), Nigeria (3.01%), Senegal (2.40%) and the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS (2.29%). However, percentage increase in total cases in Cape Verde (1.19%), Gambia (0.59%), Ghana (1.80%), Guinea (0.39%), Liberia (0.58%), Mali (0.51%), Niger (1.39%), Togo (1.93%), the Manor River Union or MRU (1.89%), Africa (1.62%), Europe (2.02%), North America (1.62%), South America (1.34%), Asia (0.74%) and the world (1.49%) was lower compared to Sierra Leone. Guinea-Bissau recorded zero increase in total cases.

Benin (4.35%) recorded the highest percentage increase in total deaths compared to Burkina Faso (0.94%), Cape Verde (0.83%), Ivory Coast (0.70%), Mali (0.94%), Niger (2.04%), Nigeria (0.81%), Senegal (2.75%), MRU (0.26%), ECOWAS (1.09%), Africa (2.44%), Europe (1.89%), North America (2.02%), South America (1.10%), Asia (0.68%) and the world (1.59%). Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo recorded zero increase in total deaths over the period.

Moreover, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total recoveries was higher compared to Benin (1.00%), Cape Verde (1.53%), Ivory Coast (2.05%), Gambia (0.16%), Ghana (1.44%), Guinea (1.07%), Mali (1.44%), Niger (2.38%), Nigeria (1.94%), Senegal (1.82%), Togo (1.60%), MRU (1.68%), ECOWAS (1.71%), Africa (2.43%), North America (1.74%), South America (0.76%), Asia (0.79%) and the world (1.57%). However, increase in percentage of total recoveries in Burkina Faso (3.22%) and Europe (2.96%) was higher compared to Sierra Leone. Guinea-Bissau and Liberia recorded zero increase in total recoveries.
