SANUSI COVID-19 indices update (17/05/21)

Sierra Leone recorded 0.86% and 0.75% increase in COVID-19 total infections and total recoveries respectively in one week, from May 8 to May 15, 2021.

In comparison, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total infections was higher compared to Burkina Faso (0.19%), Ivory Coast (0.41%), Gambia (0.25%), Ghana (0.42%), Guinea (0.64%), Guinea-Bissau (0.16%), Mali (0.74%), Niger (0.24%), Nigeria (0.19%), Senegal (0.46%), the Manor River Union or MRU (0.49%) and the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS (0.76%). However, percentage increase in total infections was higher in Benin (1.41%), Cape Verde (7.10%), Togo (1.86%), Africa (1.26%), Europe (1.35%), North America (0.96%), South America (3.30%), Asia (7.11%) and the world (3.14%) compared to Sierra Leone. Liberia recorded zero increase in total infections.

Asia (6.82%) recorded the highest percentage increase in total deaths compared to Benin (1.00%), Burkina Faso (1.23%), Cape Verde (5.63%), Ivory Coast (1.37%), Guinea (0.67%), Mali (2.62%), Nigeria (0.05%), Senegal (0.54%), Togo (0.81%), MRU (0.83%), ECOWAS (0.69%), Africa (1.57%), Europe (1.43%), North America (0.83%), South America (3.47%) and the world (2.63%). Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Niger and Sierra Leone recorded zero increase in total deaths over the period.

Moreover, Sierra Leone’s percentage increase in total recoveries was lower compared to Cape Verde (9.96%), Gambia (2.29%), Guinea (0.89%), Guinea-Bissau (1.18%), Mali (2.43%), Niger (1.11%), Togo (2.31%), ECOWAS (1.21%), Africa (1.42%), Europe (2.65%), North America (1.59%) South America (3.11%), Asia (8.76%) and the world (4.12%). Percentage increase in total recoveries was lower in Burkina Faso (0.48%), Ivory Coast (0.47%), Ghana (0.74%), Nigeria (0.61%), Senegal (0.54%) and MRU (0.59%) compared to Sierra Leone. Benin and Liberia recorded zero increase in total recoveries.
