Two Sierra Leonean soldiers said to have fired a rocket-propelled grenade bomb at their colleagues on peacekeeping duties in Somalia have been flown back home.
Private Marah and Private Turay are locked in a military Guard Room awaiting a Court Martial “soon”, according to a highly placed source at the defence ministry who wishes to remain anonymous.
The soldiers allegedly fired the bomb at their colleagues after demanding that be returned home long after their tour of duty had ended and had consistently complained of feeling homesick and war-weary.
Pvte Marah was said to have been returning from his COY location in Tadba to the LEOBAT 1 battalion headquarters in Dhobley.
The battalion was said to have been rotated in June but were not. This was delayed until October when Somalia announced it would not accept any troops from any of the three countries most affected by Ebola – Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. It is not known when the battalion will return home.
Repeated calls to get a comment from the RSLAF spokesman did not get a reply.
