Police in Kenema are investigating one of their for rape allegation.
The suspect, Sergeant Francis Lansana, the head of the Family Support Unit in Blama Division in the Kenema district, is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl.
The Stepfather of the victim, who is also a Police officer in the district, told Politico that on Saturday (December 7) night the child went missing for two hours before they could find her in Lansana’s room.
“On Saturday evening around 8pm, her aunt sent her to buy something. But she took up to two hours, so we were all worried. Then I decided that I will look for her around 10pm,” the Uncle said.
He added that as he continued his search, he heard a muffling sound coming from Lansana’s block. He called his wife and they both approached the block, knocked on the door and confirmed that indeed it was the sound of their child screaming whiles being raped by Lansana.
“The girl said Sgt. Lansana gave her Le5000 and removed her cloth and shoved it in her mouth whiles he raped her,” the stepfather explained.
The matter has since been reported to the district FSU office in Kenema. Lansana, who was apprehended by the stepfather of the victim, suddenly escaped as they were approaching the station late on Saturday evening.
In an interview with the stepfather on Monday, he said he had visited the Rainbow Center in the Kenema Government Hospital for test.
“We are just from Rainbow center in Kenema. They have done checks on her (the victim). They say I should return there on the 22nd (December,2019),” he said.
He vowed to pursue the matter with no room for compromise.
“This matter is going to court, there is no other remedy. We haven’t been able to see the man; he is still at large,” he said.
Police in Blama are currently searching for the suspect. Politico understands that his house has been raided and is under supervision.
The incident has raised question about the role of the Police in protecting girls. This incident will also dent the confidence in the force to fight against rape in rural communities like Blama.
