The National executive of the Pujehun District Descendants' Association over the weekend donated 20 bags of rice and le 1 million to the Pujehun District Health Management to feed people in homes quarantined due to suspected Ebola cases.
The association's Public Relations Officer, Moses Kanneh referred to the donation as their first intervention since the outbreak of the disease in the district apart from "individual interventions in the sensitisation process".
He said their late response was not deliberate but that they were "fighting as an association to get our own logistical support for the fight against the Ebola virus".
He assured the district of PDDA's fullest support in combating the deadly disease and that their executive planned to "join the fight beside the financial and food support to victims".
The district council chairman, Sadiq Sillah commended the association and called for their total intervention in the fight adding that "PDDA must, in fact, take the lead". He described the donation as timely and pleaded with the association to also support security personnel deployed to the quarantined homes.
The District Medical Officer, Dr. David Bome also commended them saying food remained a major challenge for those quarantined. He disclosed that three confirmed and three probable deaths had so far occurred in the district, stressing that all the cases had originated in other districts. He said that of the six houses quarantined so far, there were no signs of Ebola to report.
