Parliament seeks to promote openness through ICT

By Politico Staff Writer

The Key Expert to Parliament for the EU Technical Assistance Programme, Adams Fusheini on the 28th of September at a training held for parliamentary staff said that the training will enable staff to use digital platforms to relay information in a bid to promote openness.

Fusheini explained that the staff will use technology to provide online information to the citizens, thereby bringing parliament to the people; he noted that this will make the institution accountable.

Addressing the trainees, the Expert noted that the skills they’ll acquire together with the available technology will improve the country, noting that the nation had already set the pace by launching the e-Parliament initiative earlier this year.

He added that the acquired skills from the training will help improve staff’s efficiency in order for them to collaborate with each other across departments. Fusheini further explained that the training will enhance their ability to effectively support the institution’s members and leadership.

Highlighting the relevance of the training, he said it will upgrade the trainee’s skills in the use of internet and intranet facilities, and therefore encouraged them to make use of the opportunity.

Director of Parliamentary and Public Relations Department Sheku Lamin Turay explained that the training was tailored with goal 4 of parliament's strategic plan, which seeks to strengthen the institution’s relationship with the citizens and promote openness, transparency, and accountability of parliamentary activities.

The Principal Strategic Officer for the Center for Strategy and Parliamentary Studies (CSPS) Prince M. Kenneh highlighted that the trainees will gain knowledge on websites, electronic workbooks, iCloud drive, HR data gathering, HR document system, and M and E Departmental Quarterly Reporting templates.

Fourteen departments in parliament benefited from the two-day professional development training on the use of digital platforms for parliament’s work. The training was organized by the parliament of Sierra Leone and the European Union Delegation to Sierra Leone under the 11th European Development Fund Programme’s Technical Assistance to Parliament.
