OSD officer found dead in Kono

By Septimus Senessie in Kono

An OSD police officer attached to the Tankoro Division, Constable 15589 David Komba was found dead with his remains floating on the Woryie River at Bakundu swamp in Koidu, Kono District.

At the scene where the decomposed body was discovered one of his colleagues, who could not be named, told Politico that the deceased was one of those police officers attached to one of the Ebola Quarantined houses at Bongalow in Koidu. He added that they got wind of his missing on Thursday morning 18 September 2014.

He said on the night of the 17 September, they had met Komba during their routine night patrol at around the Konomanyi Street area “dead drunk” and he told them that he had got his gun missing and he was going in search of it.

He said that the following morning Komba did not report for duty at their Koidu headquarter for their usual morning parades. He added that they were only alerted the day before by some civilians at Bakundu community.

Crime Officer at the Tankoro Police Division, Inspector James Kewulley told Politico that the death of the OSD police officer was a big lossto them and his family.

“The missing gun is a very serious danger to the district. The well loaded gun he was carrying is nowhere to be found,” he said, adding that they were really confused. He said they were particularly afraid because they could not tell whether the gun he was carrying was snatched away from him by some unidentified criminals who might use it to wreak havoc.

He said it was too premature for them to conclude that his death was caused by drowning or he was beaten and dumped into the river, noting that only the postmortem result could determine that.

In between tears and sobs, his wife Hawa Komba, also said that the late man left home that night “seriously drunk.” The seven-month-old suckling mother of a baby girl said that the night before her husband died they had had some argument before he left. She claimed that the deceased was addicted to alcohol.

The body was handed over to family members for interment.
