The Office of National Security has issued a statement in which it made references to what it says were intelligence estimate indicating that known and unknown individuals have been engaging in activities including making pronouncements that are tantamount to disrupting the peace and stability of the country. The general public is being assured by the Security Sector that it is in full control and that people were encouraged to ‘’go about their business without any cause for alarm”.
People were however reminded that “in the spirit of inclusive and supportive security,’’ everyone should remain law-abiding and report what the authorities described as “any suspicious activity that has the tendency to undermine national security’’, asserting its ‘’avowed commitment to protect the citizens, their well-being and integrity of Sierra Leone”.
The statement came in the wake of a rise in very inflammatory messages on social media that well-meaning Sierra Leoneans have frowned upon as ill-intent and which they fear would create divisions in the country. Some of the messages that have inundated social media platforms are very toxic and virulent.
