  • Okada rider Bockarie Momoh

By Prince J Musa in Kenema

A bike rider in Kenema, Bockarie Momoh, has accused a Police officer of injuring him in an attempt to stop him from passing through a checkpoint. Momoh said the officer hooked a rope on his neck whiles he was riding and tumbled him over.

Momoh reported the incident to the CDIID and was given a medical report on Monday.

According to the aggrieved bike rider, he was in motion on the 15th of May 2020 when he was stopped by the police officer around Dauda Town in Kenema City at around 8:30 PM. He said an officer who warned him to reduce his speed tried to hit him with a rod he was holding.

“Upon my return, the officer attempted to hit me with a rod but as I escaped, the other officers trapped me with a rope on the neck. Then I fell and went unconscious,” he explained , adding that after a while, when he woke up, he was surrounded by some women who purred water on him until another bike rider who was on his way home reached the scene and subsequently took him home.

“When I looked inside my bag I realized that I had lost all the money I worked for the whole day because nothing was in my bag,” he lamented.

The police Media Officer in Kenema, Sergeant Brima James Musa, told Politico that medical paper had been issued out to Momoh and that the matter “was under investigation”.

"The police officers who were on duty that night at the post will be called upon to ascertain the fact. But mind you, bike riders are the most lawless people. It might be that Okada rider was out of time and he might have been involved in an accident elsewhere and trying to apportion blame on police. But the investigation is going on,” Sgt. Musa said.
