By Kemo Cham

The United Kingdom has announced a new High Commissioner to Sierra Leone. He is Guy Warrington who was named on Monday to replace Peter West.

A brief statement from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London published 19 October 2015, said West will be transferred to another diplomatic service appointment. Mr Warrington, it adds, takes up his appointment in Freetown in March 2016.

High Commissioner West took up his appoint in Sierra Leone in 2013 following his appointment the previous year.

Mr Warrington is currently the UK`s Director of Trade and Investment for English Regions at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, according to a curriculum vitae released by the UK government.

Previously he served as Her Majesty’s Consul General in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and as Deputy Head of Mission in Seoul, South Korea.

Warrington`s assignment with the UK`s Foreign and Commonwealth Office has also seen him served in Geneva, Switzerland, North Africa, the United Nations in New York, among other countries.

UK is the former colonial master of Sierra Leone and it has been a strategic development partner to the West African nation.

The UK was criticized by Sierra Leone government officials for responding to the Ebola epidemic late in 2014. That was followed by the deployment of dozens of British soldiers who presided over the construction of over half a dozen treatment centers that have been praised for helping in saving many lives.
