Mystery surrounds unidentified corpse in Kailahun

By Prince Musa

The authorities in Kailahun have announced a restriction in the movement of motorbike taxis known as Okadas. It follows the killing of a man in the eastern Sierra Leone district for which a bike rider is a suspect.

Paramount Chief Musa Ngombukla Kallon of Jawai Chiefdom says Okadas are no longer allowed to move about at dark.

The deceased who has still not been identified has been buried.

Paramount Chief Kallon told Politico that the unidentified corpse had been found in a plantation between Daru and Ngondohun village.

He said he was informed about the incident by a bike rider and a traffic police officer from the Daru Police Division.

PC Kallon further explained that they discovered around the corpse a crash helmet and parts of a bike. There was no document on the victim to identify him, he said.

The body was then transported to the nearby town of Daru and displayed at the police station in case someone could identify him. That proved futile.

PC Kallon said even after they had announced the incident around other villages and neighbouring chiefdoms of Gaura and Dama Njalauahun, nobody could identify the corpse. He however said that they had had unconfirmed information that the deceased might have travelled from Mendekima in the Gaura chiefdom.

The corpse was eventually taken to the Mortuary at the Government Hospital in Kenema where it was subsequently buried.

According to Chief Kallon, this is the second time a corpse has been discovered in his chiefdom and described the incident as worrisome. He said the first one was in March this year, when a decomposed body was discovered.

Jawai Chiefdom shares border with neighbouring Liberia.
