Members of Parliament have issued an ultimatum to the Minister of Lands and Housing, Dr. Denis Sandy to submit to the Clerk of Parliament a comprehensive resister of all state land by districts, revenue generated from the lists and other related documents against the date of the resumption of the House which is on 26 January 2021.
Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Bundu had earlier made the announcement before the commencement of the final debate of the 2021 Appropriation Act.
He said the decision was as a result of the Minster’s “failure to comply with directives” given to him that he should submit the documents to the Clerk of Parliament by the 16 September last year. He said the leadership of parliament came to this conclusion at the end of a meeting held with the minister on the 8 September.
“At the conclusion of our deliberations, we arrived at the following in the presence of the Minister that by the 16th of September, 2020, his Ministry should submit to Parliament a comprehensive register of all state land by districts, revenue generated from the lists and grant of state lands and any other information that will be important for parliamentary consumption. I regret to inform this honourable House that in spite of those directives given to the Minister, no information has reached the clerk of Parliament,” the Speaker said.
He said they were giving another opportunity to Dr Sandy to submit the documents that he had promised to give the Clerk by the 26th January, 2021 for the House to determine its next step.
Dr. Bundu issued a stern warning: The failure on the part of the Minister to comply with these directives will have serious consequences”.
