By Prince J Musa in Kenema
In a bid to addressing both the transportation need of the people and to get the male youth in his constituency engaged, Member of Parliament for Constituency 012, Momoh Bockarie has provided 13 motorbikes on an interest-free loan basis.
Constituency 012 comprises Koya, Dama and Gaura Chiefdoms in Kenema District.
The items presented last week also include building materials such as 150 bags of cement, 12 bundles of zinc, paint and house mat worth Le 113 million to over 10 communities in Gaura Chiefdom.
The MP said the items were meant to provide support to the people so they would be able to undertake tangible developmental projects in the constituency that would be beneficial to all.
He said the bikes were meant to ease the transport burden in remote areas within the constituency.
“Not all villages in my constituency can be accessed easily. Those bikes will facilitate the transport of people even at night in case of an emergency. Our youths are engaged in motorbike riding as a source of livelihood,” he said, adding that the recipients of the motorbikes would only pay back the basic cost as agreed in the loan, while he would pay the interest. “The interest for the thirteen motor bikes is over 22 million Leones which I vowed to pay”, he said.
He maintained that no percentage was attached to the bike for anybody but only to pay the amount of Le 8 million for each bike. “Upon completion of payment other provisions will be made to other youths riding bikes in the constituency” he said.
Bockarie went on to note that a similar presentation had been made in Dama and Koya chiefdom and that it was the turn of Gaura chiefdom.
He encouraged the people to prioritize education for their children by making good use of the free quality education as an important tool for sustainable community development.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Gaura chiefdom, Paramount Chief Moses Sama Bunduka applauded the MP for facilitating developments in his chiefdom.
“Today is one of my happiest moments for Gaura chiefdom as my dream of development is coming into reality” said the chief.
He added that the chiefdom authorities would always stand to embrace development as long as it was in the best interest of the people.
Senesie Dakowa, Chairman of the Biker Riders’ Union commended the Member of Parliament for supporting bike riders and appealed for the extension of a similar gesture to other union members.
“We have realized as bike riders that our efforts to support you were not a waste of time. Nobody will persuade us to change our mind for Honorable and this should serve as an example for other chiefdoms who support in politics,” he said.
He urged his colleagues who benefitted from the scheme to utilize the bikes well so as for the facility be extended to other people.
Some of the communities that benefited from the items include; Joru, Kokolu, Perrie, Gbandiwolo, Nyandehun, venima, Gboyama, Kebawana and Kobu among others.
