The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has dismissed allegations that a soldier serving with the presidential guard was shot and killed by his colleague because he complained about a delay in the monthly supply of their 50 kilo bag of rice for May, 2022.
In a statement the MoD described the social media comments referred to as “completely false”, noting that the deceased military officer, Staff sergeant Barrie, and one Sergeant Tucker went to assist a neighbor friend after a distress call from him to help curtail an unruly behavior of his son at his Hill station residence on the 17th of May 2022.
The statement adds that the two officers went unarmed and were in discussion with the dad when the boy stabbed them from the back with a knife. According to the statement, Staff Sergeant Barrie died at the 34 military hospitals at Wilberforce village while Sergeant Tucker is still being treated there. The suspect has been detained by the police.
In a direct response to the social media accounts of how the soldier met his death the MoD said such false reports could incite soldiers and “it is therefore advised that citizens should avoid publishing or spreading false messages on social media”.
