Armed robbers besiege FBC

For the fourth time in as many months heavily-armed robbers have attacked the residence of a senior official of Fourah Bay College at Kortright.

According to the latest victim, the senior finance officer Jacob Tucker, "in the early hours of Monday 17th November, about five men, armed with machetes, knives and a gun, burst into my house after cutting through the metal bars in kitchen window."

He said they quickly overpowered him and his children and stole his plasma TV, a generator, several mobile phones and cash.

Tucker said he had reported the matter to the police and "I am still assessing the value of all the items stolen from me in this very brazen robbery."

The president of the Academic Staff Association (ASA), Dr. Charles Silver said "FBC campus is under siege from neighbouring communities that are encroaching on college daily." He said "all lecturers are facing a threat and we live in constant fear, the armed robbery attacks appear well organised...our security officers have done their bit but this is surely now a national issue because this place belongs to the state..."

The ASA boss said his members were seeking an urgent meeting with the Inspector General of Police to discuss the security of the campus.

An irate female lecturer told Politico that the Inspector General of Police had "failed badly in his main responsibility to secure the life and property of citizens." In an angry tone, she asked: "How can the police sit by and do nothing while armed robbers attack the same place up to four times." She continued "It is getting serious and lives could be lost if this is the way the IG is doing his job.
