Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of Pademba Road Court No.2 has remanded a man named Mustapha Fofana for allegedly wounding Abubakarr Turay, a taxi driver.
Yesterday, 9th August 2022, the accused appeared in court to answer to a three-count charge of wounding with intent, wounding, and assault contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
The charge sheet stated that on Sunday 17th July 2022 at a Car Wash facility at Lumley in Freetown, the accused assaulted and maliciously wounded the complainant, Turay.
Led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hawa Bah, Turay told the court he went to the facility to meet his friend and that after parking his car, he went over to his friend who had asked to do something for him in his vehicle.
He said while doing the work, his friend then informed him that Fofana had taken his money and two memory cards that were in his taxi.
According to the complainant, the accused was handed over to him by his friend who claimed he saw the accused with the alleged stolen items.
He said while holding Fofana a fight broke out between the two, during which the accused then took a bottle and hit him on his right ear, making him lose consciousness.
He said Fofana attempted to flee but was chased and captured by people around the area.
The complainant further stated that after regaining his consciousness, he reported the matter to the Lumley Police Division, and then went to the Connaught hospital where he was given a medical report. He said he later returned and made a statement to the said police station.
The witness was cross-examined, and the defense applied for bail for his client, but it was rejected by the magistrate.
The matter was adjourned to 17th August 2022.
