In their third Group A’ African World Cup qualifier, the National Team, Leone Stars defeated their opponents Djibouti by 2 goals to 1 in El Jadida, Morocco.
Former British born veteran Defender Curtis Davies opened the scoring in his debut for the National side in the 12th minute of play from a corner kick that left back Emmanuel Samadiya volleyed after 24-year-old Augustus Kargbo who plays for Italian Serie B side Cesena dribbled into the 18 yards box which the Djibouti defender cleared leading the corner.
However, Djibouti equalized with a penalty taken by Gabriel Abeiku Dadzie in the 35th minute after goalkeeper, Mohamed Nbalie Kamara committed a foul in the penalty box.
Sierra Leone struggled to capitalize on many chances after the game was even but they didn't let their lead slip for long, as Augustus who was on top on the day restored their advantage just six minutes into the second half.
Sierra Leone have now played one game more with 4 points and they are still trailing Egypt with 6 points who are the group leaders followed by Burkina Faso with 4 points. Guinea Bissau also have 4 points whilst Djibouti occupy the bottom of the group with no point after playing three games.
Leone Stars next match is against Burkina Faso at the Stade de 26 mars in Bamako, Mali on the 10th June this year -their final match for this International break.
