The physical implementation of the Kpetema to Mattru Jong road project will start in January 2022. This was disclosed by the Communications Specialist of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority Keifa Mohamed Jaward.
“The next stage of the project cycle will be the recruitment of contractors in readiness for the commencement of the physical implementation of the project in January 2022”, he stated.
Speaking during its launch, the Director for the East and Southern Region for the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) Mohamed Abel-Aziz said the event was to present and explain to all parties involved of the necessary guidelines and procedures required to successfully implement the project and achieve its objectives.
Abel-Aziz spoke about the 2030 BADEA strategy which was recently approved to focus on four pillars such as Infrastructure, Investment for Inclusivity, Industrialization and Innovation. He added that they as an institution are happy to continue to work with Sierra Leone which will enable them to contribute to the development of the country’s economy.
Giving an overview of the road construction project, the Director General of SLRA, Ing. Amara Jambai Kanneh explained it is part of the 143.2 Kilometers segment of the feasibility studies and preliminary designs done by SLRA. He further explained that the road when completed will contribute in enhancing safety and efficiency on the country’s roads and provide sustainable economic development in the country.
The Minister of Works and Public Assets, Peter Bayuku Konteh expressed appreciation to the company for their support in improving the livelihood of Sierra Leoneans.
Konteh assured the BADEA team that the ministry would work in tandem with SLRA, Ministry of Finance and the project consultant to effectively supervise the project.
The Mayor of Bonthe Municipal Council, Layemin Joe Sandi appealed to the company to consider investing in the remaining main roads in Bonthe district. He expressed gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio and all stakeholders for the efforts made in ensuring that the construction of the Tikonko Junction- Kpetema to Mattru Jong road project becomes a reality.
SLRA together with the Ministries of Finance, Works and Public Assets and other stakeholders in the road sector held a two-day start up workshop with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) on the Construction of the Kpetema - Mattru Jong Road Project (42.5km).
A special event was organised at the Golden Tulip Hotel on the 21 and 22 October this year to mark the launch of the project.
The road project is a USD$ 25,000,000 Twenty-five Million dollar loan agreement between the government of Sierra Leone and BADEA which is to cover twenty-six years.
