Koidu diamond, gold dealers donate to hospital

By Septimus Senessie in Kono.

The Diamond and Gold Dealers' Association in Kono District on Tuesday donated 37 bags of rice to the Koidu Government Hospital, the Koidu School for Blind and the Blind Musical Stars in Koidu with a money value of over Le 4 million.

The Association chairman, Prince Kai Saquee said their focus as an association had been towards education and security among other sectors, adding that they wanted to diversify their donations to other institutions including the less-privileged.

He said pupils at the blind school and sick patients at the public hospital had been crying for help over the years, which he said had been fulfilled by their donation.

The District Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Jayah thanked the association "for being charitable" to the hospital. He described the Koidu Government Hospital as "the worst hospital in the country" with no mortuary, x-ray machine or an equipped laboratory. He appealed to the Diamond and Gold Dealers' Association to think about those problems in their development plans.

Tamba Mathew Gbessay, head teacher and proprietor of the Koidu School for the Blind also thanked the association for their "philanthropic gestures" while requesting for more assistance.

The Koidu Government Hospital received 30 bags, while the Koidu School for the Blind and the Blind Musical Stars received 5 and 2 bags respectively.
