By Prince J Musa in Kenema

The Kenema Islamic Secondary School Old Students Association (KISSOSA) through the initiative of the Teachers of the School has recognized the Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rahman Swarray by launching a Foundation in his name.

The event was geared towards recognizing the efforts of the minister in promoting human capital development in education.

The launch took place at the Islamic Secondary School campus in Kenema on the 18th of March 2023.

In her statement, the Principal of Islamic Junior Secondary School Christiana Mabinty Momoh on behalf of her colleagues described the event as another great achievement for them as a school. She said the event was to recognize Minister Swarray’s contribution to promoting the government’s free quality education.

“This is a motivation for the continuing pupils to take their education seriously so that they will in the future do more for the school,’’ she said.

She  said  the school administrators did a great job by producing  a ‘philanthropist’ who always maintains close connection with his alma mater in supporting the school to build the human resource of the country through hard work.

The Principal implored those behind the foundation to be conscious and focused as the public will be closely monitoring its sustainability so that it can enhance the development and promotion of education in the school.

In his statement, the President of KISSOSA, Patrick Lebbie referred to the setting of the foundation in the name of one of them as no mistake. He said the minister has always been supportive as demonstrated in his contribution to the construction of a six-classroom building for the school by KISSOSA.

In his Keynote address, the Information Minister expressed delight for President Julius Maada Bio of whose blessing he was able to do what he could in promoting human capital development through education. He said naming a foundation in his name demonstrates that both teachers of the Islamic Secondary School and the pupils appreciate the little contributions he has been doing to his alma- mater.

He informed the gathering that, he was never informed about the forming of the foundation but rather, he was invited to a launching of a programme.

He said the foundation will be non-political, geared towards helping actualize the dream of the government’s vision of quality education for the country.

Minister Swarray commended the teachers who had been contributing in diverse ways with their meager salary in putting the necessary resources to grace the launching of the foundation.

He also commended the foundation members for mobilizing children above 18 years to be registered during the voter registration process and conducting free lessons for children during holidays.

He further stated that the launch sends a signal that the KISSOSA members appreciate the President’s free quality education initiative. He encouraged them to start putting in the needful resources so that they can facilitate those eligible voters to go and cast their votes in the general election.

The minister admonished KISSOSA and the school administration to continue doing more development for the school and assured them that the internet facility for the school will soon start operation.

He concluded by encouraging the pupils to grab the opportunity available to them so that they will become successful especially girls as he said the government has made special provisions for those pursuing science courses in tertiary institutions with scholarships.
