With funds from the Chief Executive Officer of Transnational, Adonis Aboud, local journalist Mohamed Murtala Kamara has pioneered the construction of a Le15 million borehole project at the Calaba Town community.
Presenting the water well to the community, Kamara explained that he had decided to pioneer the construction project in the Calaba Town community because “I grew up in Calaba Town and the people in this community raised me up. I think I have to give back to them one way or the other.”
He said providing water to deprived communities like Calaba Town would go a long way to salvaging the present water problem of the people.
He said they had decided to name the well after the late president of the Calaba Town Progressive Youth Organisation, CPYA, Fatmata Jalloh, whom he said was the brain behind the formation of the organisation and the water well project. He commended the CPYA for collaborating with him in ensuring the project succeeded while thanking the Dr Aboud for providing the funds for the project and for his continuous support towards the community.
He pleaded with the community residents to make good use of the facility saying “water is life”.
The organisation’s chairlady, Hawa Sesay said “water has been one of our major problems in this community but with this our children will not go to other communities to fetch water again and they will now go to school on time”.
While thanking the benefactors for their collective effort in providing water facility in the community, Sesay also pleaded with Aboud to support them in the construction of the community’s benevolent primary school which he said was in bad shape.
Adonis Aboud noted that the eastern part of Freetown had always been deprived of many facilities “including but not limited to water and energy”. He said he was introduced to CPYA by its former chairlady and founder, adding that he had since been passionate about helping people in the east.
“I will look into the school project and I will also help in other areas” Aboud said. He implored the community people to use the facility responsibly as “proper maintenance will go a long way in maintaining the well”.
