The Julius Maada Bio (JMB) Women and associates have donated assorted food items to communities in Bo. The group said the donation is to cushion the effect of the already difficult economic condition occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic which families are facing across the country.

The assorted items include rice, cooking oil and salt.

The donation, which was championed by First Lady Fatima Bio, is part of a charity drive to feed thousands of families across the country during the course of the country’s response to the pandemic. Similar donations have also been done in Freetown and other districts across the country.

Emma Kowa Jalloh, Minister of Fisheries and a member of the JMB Women, said during an event marking the presentation of the items that this is not the first time the group is making such donations.

"We have been feeding people during Ramadan and also given gifts during Christmas. So this is not the first time that we are donating to people, "she said.

Paramount Chiefs, Women’s groups, union leaders, were all in attendance during the handing over ceremony on Saturday.

Speaking on behalf of the Paramount chiefs in Bo district, PC Mohamed Tshombi Kague of Wonde Chiefdom, expressed gratitude for the gesture.

"We are in no doubt at all, because we have a team in the government that thinks about us," he said, adding: “We will continue to pray for this COVID-19 to come to an end in the country.”
