Ishmael Koroma who fled the country after killing his girlfriend was on Saturday 28th January extradited to Freetown by Guinean authorities so he could face justice.

Ishmael, who in a video footage whilst detained in Guinea confessed to the killing, has been on the run since November last year following the discovery of the battered body of Fatmata Sesay in her room in Moa Wharf, a coastal slum fishing settlement in Freetown.

A Police source confirmed to Politico that the fugitive has been detained at the Eastern Police station in Freetown where the matter was first reported last year, pending further investigations for his likely first court appearance. He was nabbed at a wharf in Conakry after a Sierra Leonean who knew about the case spotted him mending fishing nets, and immediately alerted the Guinean Police.

24 year-old Fatmata was a fishmonger at Moa Wharf and according to her father Sheka Sesay, she had a frosty relationship with the suspect, one that he vehemently opposed.

Ishmael was reported to have entered Fatmata’s room whilst she was asleep, tricked her younger brother into leaving the room by offering him five Leones to buy something for himself, before launching his brutal attack on the young woman. He then went into hiding.

Later the door to the woman’s room had to be broken to gain access, only for the victim to be found in a pool of blood. The father said the autopsy report which is yet to be seen by Politico, detailed a fractured skull, broken ribs, shoulder and limbs, and a deep stab wound on the chest.

Sesay earlier told Politico that the suspect was often demanding money from his daughter or taking away her personal belongings.

Reacting to news of the extradition of his daughter’s killer, Sesay said anger is burning inside him. ‘’ I want the law to take its course’’, he told Politico.
