Gola Rainforest donates towards fight against Covid-19

The management of the Gola Rain Forest has donated the sum of Le10 million and 100 bags of 25kg rice towards the national efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic. The donation which was presented to the District Covid-19 Emergency Operation Center (DICOVERC) on Monday is part of the institution’s contribution to tackling the pandemic in all three districts the Gola Forest exists.

Other condiments like onions, tomatoes, vegetable oil, Maggie, salt and soap, were also part of the donated consignment.

Manager of the Gola Rainforest, Francis Musa Massaquoi, said during the presentation in Kenema: “This food items are meant for our brothers and sisters that are under quarantine in homes and other facilities. The cheque is to support the office for logistics, transport and other activities to fight the virus and to provide more food and non-food items for the quarantine centers and to help facilitate their running of the office.”

Gola Rainforest cuts across Kenema, Kailahun and Pujehun districts. Massaquoi said similar donations will be done in the other two districts.

”We are protecting the forest at the same time protecting human beings. Gola Forest decided to come to fight Covid-19 as their support to complement government’s efforts,” Massaquoi added.

Whiles expressing gratitude, the Kenema DICOVERC coordinator, Umaru Vandi Kondovoh, said the donation is the largest single one they have received from any organization.

“This donation is extremely timely for our people at quarantine homes. Gola rainforest donation has topped the list of donations in this Covid-19 fight,” he said.

Chairman of the District Council, Mohamed Amodu Sesay, also expressed the districts gratitude whiles praising the forest’s management for cooperating with the authorities on development projects.
