A former pupil of Saint Edwards Primary School in Freetown, Alphonso Williams, has donated furniture to the institution.
The presentation of the furniture was made by his daughter on his behalf, as he is presently in the United Kingdom.
Presenting the items which included benches and tables Alphina Williams said the children have been suffering for lack of furniture and believed it will be of great benefit to them. 100 tables and 108 benches were given to the school
Catholic Reverend Father Martin Stevens during the event took time to encourage the teachers to serve diligently for the betterment of the children and the country as a whole.
He urged the teachers to motivate their pupils so they could work harder for better results in the coming national primary school examination.
Jonathan Bassie a class 6 pupil said: “The donation will help our school greatly. As were about to take our mock exams, the furniture will be sufficient and we will no longer face furniture constraint. When I grow up, I will help my school greatly after I have become a great man. My school lacks water, dustbins and other school materials. When I grow up, I will help my school in solving these problems.”
Alphonso Williams is Chief Executive Officer of the Sierra Leone Educational Development (SLED).The donation was seen as a way of helping the school and as a way of paying back for all that the institution has done in his life.
