By: Aminata Sameena Sesay

A relative of the victims of the Aberdeen fire incident that occurred on the 18th October, 2022  Mamusu Kamara has expressed dissatisfaction at the level of response manifested by neighbors saying had they acted quickly enough, her relatives would not have perished in the fire that swept through the apartment.

Speaking to Politico on Thursday 20th, October 2022, Kamara noted that, three of her relatives, Jerica Ruth Kamara, who was 25 years, her nine month old baby Camilla, and 5year- old Abubakarr all lost their lives.

She pointed out that she cannot at the moment ascertain what led to the fire outbreak that fateful night, but said Police are investigating the cause of it. She said, all of the victims were together when the blaze started.

She reiterated that, if only the neighbors would have listened to the cries of the victims and given a helping hand promptly, the three would have been still alive.

She said family members are very devastated and are currently mourning the death of their beloved ones. She further wished that Sierra Leoneans will start having compassion for each other when they are in dire need.

She urged the public to respect their privacy as they mourn the tragic death of their three relatives.

According to reports, the nearby Aberdeen Fire Department’s only Engine was not working due to a road accident two week before, and that by the time a fire engine from the Tower Hill Headquarters rushed to the scene, they could only help in stopping the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.
